OK before i start i know my mum was um "special" and had some, well...... bizzare training ideas.
I was one of 7 kids, Dad didnt help much coz he was sick, so my mum was left to run the 'ship' and she did it with an iron fist.
We were NEVER late for a meeting we sat, parents and 2 kids in one row the other 5 in row in front. We didnt move a muscle, or whisper if you did mum got out her wooden spoon and wacked us across the ears. If you did too much you got taken out the back with spoon and given more smacks.
We HAD to put up our hands to anwser at least 10 times though any meeting. No exceptions! If you didn't know the answer you were told to say" i dont know".
Lesson
Pay attention at the meetings
I remember one Christmas we were watching 'as a family' some Christmas show (don't know why, coz we didn't celebrate it). After it was finished mum said "why dont you hang up your socks on the fireplace".
Ok pretty weird, didn't understand why she would say that, we questioned her why, she simply said "if you want to do it", so we all went to our rooms found socks, hung them up thinking mum would put in some lollies or something.
Next morning we checked, she had poured in oil from Dad's shed (which we had to wash out), she then lined us all up (we aged from 4 to 14) and beat the crap out of us.
Lesson
We should have known the right thing to do regardless of what anyone said to us.
We went witnessing EVERY weekend, rain hail or shine sick or dying we never missed. No one ever helped, so mum and dad split the kids between them, or if mum alone she took 3 kids the other 4 split in twos and went alone. We would be scared senseless walking around at ages 7 to 12 alone. mum would say dont worry you know more than anyone who comes to the door even if its a pastor, you have the truth.
Lesson trust in Jehovah.
We studied the watchtower/book for 2-3 hours with her every week so we could have good answers. regardless of what was happening in our lives.
Remember being in my room, licking my wounds from a beating, mum comes to my room big smile on her face "ok time to study"
lesson you will learn about jehovah like it or lump it
Beatings where a fact of life for us kids. It always involved a piece of wood, mum holding one of our arms and belting us on any/all parts of our body. Over and over till we were left bruised. And you know we werent bad kids, i've racked my brain and i cant think of anything that bad, the worse thing i can remember doing was not returning a necklace i was lent by a friend at school.
One of my sisters at age 10 had everything she owned except clothes thrown in the bin. Her crime didnt want give her toys to some little kids mum was babysitting.
lesson jehovah likes people who share.
Two of my sisters came home to find everything they owned on the footpath, locks changed on house. One sister had slept with her boyfriend the other just didnt want to go to the meetings anymore.
Lesson obey jehovah or life with your family is over. And no you dont get time to find somewhere safe to live.
Could go on about other of her training but they are some of those that were training us to be JW.

Tattoos/Piercings?
by Think About It ini feel like woody allen in the 1973 movie "the sleeper".
i leave in 1995, wake up 15 yrs later to see what has been going on in the jw religion and find out it is completely different from what i left.
i started a thread about beards, because i wanted to know how the modern day beard and goatee fad went over in the kh's.. now i'm curious about the tattoo, piercings and short or shaved hair look.

i got two tatts. My mother in law saw one when i bent over. She then sat my ten year old son down with the Bible and told him they were evil and jehovah doesnt like them. Had belly button ring, hid that too.

well like i said, if you dont like then dont read it. Maybe its just payback for the torture you inflicted on the poor people in the field. Hey its never hardcore all i have ever done is just talk about my experiences, what has happened to me. I think thats all most people do isnt it?

Hello all you scary apostates. Ill try to be brief, prob could do a whole topic on each point.
I was born a JW, one of 7 kids. My mum ruled house with iron fist (whole story just there) We were the perfect JW family, never missed FS or meetings all baptised at magic age of 14, all pioneered. I was a good girl, married at 19 (virgin) regular pioneered for 10 years. Was all set to go to bethel but fell pregnant so couldnt go. My husband was an MS but was stood down coz he wasnt doing enough. He never recovered and slowly died spiritually. The last 4 years of marrige was hell he left all Bible principles and abused me on every level possible.
I was DF first time at age 33, that story can be found as post under the topic ...'what are the outrageous things the elders do to you. Went back (loved God and nowhere else to go as i followed no non-JW friends)
Life was a mess my bestest friends in the world was ms razor blade and mr Vodka
DF again at 34 (as first time didnt think i should have been, didnt hide anything was repentant) this time had a friend. (yep got naughty in my old age)
Found God ..... the real God not the one the JW teach. Have seen presence of God, had prayers answered, felt the Holy Spirit (yes you can actually feel it). Been on facebook exjw pages always being told to stop preaching, which i find funny coming from ex jw. If you dont want to hear what im saying, well stop reading DER. Its not like im at your doorstep with my foot in your door and not letting you close it. Funny Jw hate being on the receiving end of what they have done for years.

i knew a brother who refused to shave his coz he had bad scars. He wasnt allowed to do anything, no talks, no jobs no witnessing.
Never understood it. Men in Bible had one, heck some werent even allowed to cut their hair. Come on make it a 'new light' issue and change your mind like everything else and let those who want one have one. Too many stupid rules!

Did you loathe going in field service, if so why?
by HappyGuy ini always felt like i was not a "spiritual" person because i loathed going in field service.
i'm not even sure why i loathed it.
i am very outgoing and can talk to anyone, anytime, about anything.

Hated hated hated it.
Regular pioneered for 10 years. Did all the tricks 'to count time' Seemed like such a waste, as long as i wrote down 90 hours the elders were happy. It was all cat service (me.hours me.hours me.hours) and not about actually helping people. Hated knocking on doors and nobody interested or wanted you there.
Just glad a never brought anyone into 'the truth', would find that hard to live with.

My treatment when DF first time
I was there coz i was raped. The 'kind' elders explained its not rape if you dont scream and proceded to ask if i climaxed! WTF i was raped, my protested that i didnt scream coz my kids where in the house and i didn't want them seeing anything, didn't matter. And when i said my husband actually set it up with his friend, well to that the elders said, "then why would you let your husband turn you into a slut"
The only thing i dont understand is why the heck i went back and got reinstated. I guess i loved God and still wanted to serve him.
